August Recap :)

Man I just cannot keep on top of things lately!  I'm sure none of it has to do with my intense preparation for the start of our new homeschool year. ;) And we have been doing fun things lately that just keep me busy...but I think the biggest thing keeping me from my blogging(and some other) duties is transitioning Devin from our summer schedule to our new "School year schedule".  It has NOT been easy!!  Changing an OCD 2 year old's schedule is...well hard and painful!  But it must be done. And it happened two weeks ago...we're still adjusting.(I take extra strength tylenol like a vitamin regimen)   I swear though that Elizabeth LOVES change!  She was so excited to start doing the new schedule and she can't wait to start school(oh how I hope that enthusiasm lasts!!).  I'm grateful one of them is taking it well.  Anyway back to the point at hand, I am still behind on this here blog so let's work on that shall we?!
August was a fun filled month!  Starting with our anniversary weekend! Friday the 2nd after putting Devin down for his nap I took Elizabeth upstairs with my mom then drove to Tony's work to pick him up.  We so enjoyed the Parade of Homes last year that we decided to do it again this year...and we really enjoyed it again!  We saw some amazing houses and just really enjoyed wandering the homes getting ideas, discussing things we liked and things we don't and dreaming of when we can actually hopefully someday work with one of the  home builders! We hit up a lot of homes that first day!  And ended our day with dinner at Fazoli's then went to our motel...yes Motel 6 actually. We didn't spend much time there, and for good reason.  It wasn't absolutely terrible but it certainly wasn't great either!  We got up and out nice and early Saturday morning, and sadly discovered that the Parade of Homes didn't start up until noon...we had like 4 hours to kill!  Tony had this brilliant idea to go look at Odyssey's at a car dealership he's looked at online for a couple years.  We felt pretty safe with it as we started looking around and they didn't have any Odyssey's in our price range, and before long the salesman came out and we started talking to him....and sure enough he pulls from the back a van they just got in....that was fantastically low mileage, in great condition in a beautiful dark blue color.  We took it on a test drive and fell in love with it!  And after all was said and done we traded in our pilot for it.  And we have been nothing but happy that we did!  That ended up taking longer that anticipated(we weren't anticipating leaving with anything but our Pilot) so we only got to see one house on our way to the Desert Star Playhouse for our show, that was as always very entertaining.  We hit up a house or two on our way to the major attraction....Tony found a great deal on a room at The Little America Hotel.  We had dinner there and then I enjoyed the nice soaker tub in our room.  Sunday was our anniversary and we had breakfast in the hotel as well...we had their breakfast buffet and it was amazing!  All the food there is absolutely delicious!!  And that was our great anniversary weekend!  The kids were thrilled to see the van and got such a hoot out the the automatic opening side doors.(I LOVE those!!)  I did not however take any pictures of the weekend, I was too busy enjoying it!
The next week was pretty typical, Devin had feeding and occupational therapy, Elizabeth had dance/tumbling, we held scouts and Thursday my mom and I hosted our ward/neighborhood book club.  I suggested the book "The Magicians Nephew" by C.S. Lewis, the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series.  As it is one of my favorites, and the general consensus was that it was a good read...so glad!  That Saturday my parents and Tony and I had a yard sale to get rid of some things we no longer need or want around, and made some good money too!  My parents finally got their Buick sold to someone who was very much looking forward to fixing it up.  I haven't mentioned yet that my parents also are now the proud owners of a Toyota Prius!  The next week was much in the same, except that Devin only had OT as his feeding therapist had to cancel, he did also have developmental therapy that week though.  That weekend we spent in Palisade's National Park with our parents.  The kids loved having both sets of grandparents all to themselves!  They enjoyed riding their scooter/fire truck ride on all around the RVs, and playing together, and splashing in my parent's little pool.  We didn't go to the lake as it was getting low and so it had a serious stink!  They also had fun playing at the playground there as well.  We had a very enjoyable time!  One night we had a rousing game of Peanuts Uno(that has the fun and interesting twist of a "good grief" card)  It was a lot of fun and laughter!  Such a great weekend!

Fun with Papa!

Devin realizing that he does actually LIKE otter pops...he never bit it, just drank it like from a straw, but it was still yummy!

Fun in the little splash pool!

Notice how differently our kids build with blocks.  One has depth perception and one does not.  Can you guess which is which?! ;)

The thrill of the chase!

In this case it was even more fun being caught!

Back to construction...

The next week we had signed Elizabeth up to try a piano class at Bravo, but the only opening they had left was on Tuesday at 5pm, so we ended up moving her dance/tumbling class to Wednesday night.  Elizabeth was so excited to start learning to play the piano!  After the class her teacher reported that she did amazing, and she hoped that Elizabeth would continue the class because she was excited to teach her.  Elizabeth begged to keep doing piano, so I told her we'd sign her up if she promised to practice without whining, and to do her very best.  She wholeheartedly agreed and so I signed her up(she has since almost always reminded ME that she needs to practice her piano! And always looks forward to her class. It's a small group class of about 4 kids max.) We however don't actually have a piano so she is currently practicing at Bravo on days she's there and at home on a little Baby Genius alligator toy piano, which works ok for now, but we're going to look into upgrading around the holiday season. Wednesday when she went to her new dance/tumbling class she was thrilled to learn that Mrs. O was going to be her teacher again! That Thursday I somehow in all my absent mindedness scheduled Devin's feeding and occupational therapy on the same day(one early in the morning and the other in the late afternoon)...and to make it worse we accidentally pushed Devin a bit too far in feeding therapy in the morning, and he got sick afterward so I gave him some Dramamine to help, and then took him to OT in the afternoon and completely forgot about it.  So we were surprised at how much swinging and rolling and jumping he did...he even went in the wagon!  For quite a while!  When I got back to the car I remembered the Dramamine, and realized that's why he was able to do so much.  Unfortunately the drugs wore off before the sensory affect of OT did and it threw his "sensory center" way off....which in turn threw his behavior way off.  And it's been a seriously terrible battle with him ever since.  The following week, we played patch up Devin in his therapies, Elizabeth again thoroughly enjoyed her piano class, and during her dance/tumbling class I watched her look bored and put out during the dance half, she didn't seem very interested in even trying most of the things they were doing.  So I talked to Elizabeth about it and she kinda bounced around my questions so I just left it in my mind to mull over for a while. That Wednesday Devin had developmental therapy as well, and we got nothing accomplished except determining(along with his OT)that there is a very good chance Devin is color blind, but I'll go more into that when we know more.  He was quite the pill! And this is where I'll leave you as we transition from August to September in Bryce Canyon, which I'll do a separate post about!

Here are some pictures from some fun the kids had at a church parking lot and adjacent grassy retaining area one day.  We go there quite often as the kids really enjoy it.

It's all too easy for Elizabeth to climb

Walking home....Elizabeth always leaves us in her dust!

One night while Tony was checking on the kids after we put them to bed, he calls to me and tells me to come to Elizabeth's room and bring the camera...

No worries her bed is nice and clean ;)
