So Much Going On!

Where to start...well...last week Elizabeth started a kindergarten curriculum and workbooks, and I'm super impressed with her progress...I'm teaching her about concepts and such I didn't even teach my 4 and 5 year old preschoolers she just love to learn about new things and she catches onto things so much faster than I ever expect! It's alot fun when I'm not feeling overwhelmed with keeping her pace. Devin is back to normal and is off his acid reflux medications!! It's so nice!! He's getting teeth like crazy, he's up to 5 now(3 on top 2 on bottom)!! He had a really tough go of it the end of last week as one of his top teeth was coming in right under a sore in his mouth from his thrush, it was so very sad, and he let us know every second! Luckily it's through and the sore is gone so life is good again! He's still showing no signs of actual crawling but he does kinda get around on the floor...mostly in a backwards direction or sideways, but he still manages to make some pretty good messes and get to Elizabeth's things which she's not real fond of. Last Saturday we had Holbrook family pictures(as Elizabeth was like 4 months old in our last ones and Devin and Jen have since joined the family my mom thought it was time). We had our favorite photographer Sarah Hatch do them so I know they turned out great! Our kids were anything but cooperative. Devin still wasn't feeling well so he was crying alot, Elizabeth just doesn't like to be told what to do, and she's only good for a couple pictures anyway after that she's done and all over! Luckily there was plenty of time and space for her to run around. After pictures we went to El Matador for lunch which I'm sure was good, but I haven't been able to smell or taste anything for over a week now so...I honestly have no clue how it tasted. Then we went over to Eric and Jen's place so Eric could help Tony figure out what was up with his jump drive...turns out its fried :( and of course Tony never did a back up on it, luckily there was nothing irreplaceable on it. Jen and I had a nice visit while Elizabeth checked out all their cool stuff. Then we went up to my parents house so Tony could help my dad get some bags of salt for their water softener.
Elizabeth is really into Snow White right now and wanted to be her for Halloween and no matter how we tried to talk her out of it she wouldn't budge so luckily she...yes SHE found a cheep ten dollar dress at Walmart and I found some cute slipper shoes and bow off Amazon(which we have gift cards for...thank you Swagbucks!) She slept in that dress every night for quite a while, and was thrilled with the whole ensemble...since then though Tony's parents brought her new BYU cheerleader outfit(as the other one was surprisingly too small!)and she's back on track to be a cheerleader for Halloween again! Which I'm thrilled about cause Devin is going to be a BYU football player and they're going to look so adorable together! She still loves Snow White and she'll tell you she's her favorite princess and that she likes to dress like her and sing like her...just not for Halloween ;)*YAY!* Monday night Elizabeth decorated her pumpkin and I decorated Devin's(Tony and I are going to carve ours closer to Halloween) she did awesome with it! And is very proud of her "Halloween pumpkin". Tuesday her new glasses were ready so we went and got them. Ellen meticulously fit them to her head and eyes and they work sooooo much better! They're definitely not as cute but it's far more important they are helping...not hurting her eyes. And she's ok without her "pretty princess glasses" cause we told her when she's older she can wear them again. She even told me later that day "I can see so much better now! These are really good glasses!" too cute! Last night we made cupcakes...I meant to make cake mix cookies but wasn't thinking and just started following the cake box instructions so we just made cupcakes instead! And today Elizabeth and I had fun decorating them! I frosted them and Elizabeth put the sprinkles on. Fun times! Well that's it for now, enjoy the pictures!

Tumbling and an Unpleasant Sleepover

Monday Devin was still not feeling very well, and throughout the day he just got worse and worse. He slept from about 9am to 1:30 when I had to wake him up I gave him some pedialyte which he drank and immediately threw back up. I checked his diaper which was dirty from diarrhea but there was no urine from what I could tell, so I called the pediatrician's office and talked to the nurse, told her what was going on and she suggested we head to Primary's right away...great just what I didn't want to hear. So I packed an activity bag for Liz called Tony to let him know what was going on, and he decided to meet us there. We got back to triage pretty fast, but had to wait for an ER room to open up for about an hour! Once we got back and seen by the dr it was clear he was dehydrated cause when he cried there were no tears. At this point we decided to have Tony take Elizabeth to her first tumbling class, while I stayed with Devin. Elizabeth LOVED her class(I had an inkling she might) Tony said she did pretty good too. She has a bit of a listening problem, and waiting her turn isn't exactly a strong point of hers, but that's part of the reason we're doing this for her, we want her to learn how to act in a "class" setting. Elizabeth gets super excited every time I ask her about tumbling and rambles on and on about running and flipping and walking like all kinds of animals, and how much fun it is. She's asked me since then if she can go everyday! Oh I wish she could! But sadly I had to inform her it's only on Mondays. Back at Primary Children's Devin and I waited in the ER to get an IV, to start him on some fluids, and do some blood work...this was so much harder to accomplish than I thought it would be. His nurse tried first. Two spots...neither worked, so she called the specialty IV team, they both tried twice to no avail...he was just so dehydrated the veins were just gone. So they put heat packs on his hands and his feet, and each side of his head...just in case, then the 2nd specialty team came and looked up and down him a couple time did some debating then went for one in his hand and finally got it...by this time Devin was beyond completely spent. His eyes were rolled back and he didn't move or make a peep when they put the IV in. This was a bad sign so they hooked him up to a bunch of monitors to make sure nothing stopped working, namely his heart and/or lungs. At this point I was in tears, and really worried about him. I just kept thinking I should have brought him in that morning when he threw up for the 2nd time around 9am, and it wouldn't have gotten this bad. He looked horrible. A white sale had nothing on him. His blood tests showed extreme dehydration and that his blood sugar was super low. They then came in and just started adding bags and syringes to his IV, he ended up with three bags and two syringes giving him everything he was so low on. He just lay there with his eyes rolled back...it was almost too much! But the fluids worked pretty fast and he "woke up" within about 45 minutes. They checked his blood sugar and such two more times as he still needed more after the first and second check, but by about 8pm his levels were back to normal. We got to our hospital room around then too. He kept down pedialyte all night so early Tuesday morning we gave him a couple ounces of formula which he kept down, yay! He kept down two more 2oz bottles so they let us go home late that morning, and told me to just bring him straight back to the RTU (Rapid Treatment Unit) if he shows signs of dehydration again. Tuesday night he also got his 2nd flu shot...poor beat up boy! I was hoping to get him up to drinking 3oz today, but when I tried this morning he threw up, so I've stuck to 2oz every hour or so while he's awake, as he's been sleeping alot! But he seems to be doing alright with it. His mouth is wet and he has some tears when he cries, and the best sight of all is the adorable pink in his cheeks! So I guess we'll just do it the hard way for a while.








I took these Tuesday, it's funny cause he went from looking miserable then he saw the orange light on the camera and smiled! I have him so well trained! Taking his pictures actually perked him up a bit as well!

More Halloween Fun...and such

Last Monday Elizabeth and I baked chocolate chip cookies, it's one of Elizabeth's favorite things to do and she asks to do it all the time, so when I actually say yes she is thrilled and so excited! Devin and Elizabeth were being really cute together that night as well. Here are some pictures of the fun we've had this week!




















Friday we let Elizabeth paint her pumpkin, and she did so good this year! There was pretty much no mess at all and her pumpkin looks so good! She had a really great time too, she loves to paint! She's getting pretty good at it too!







Friday night we tried an experiment...we put the kids to bed in their room TOGETHER. It actually didn't go as badly as I thought it would, Devin totally slept through all of Elizabeth's playing, and they both stayed asleep all night. But Devin started stirring about 7:30 which woke Elizabeth up and then it was all over, everyone was awake, so we're going to try again next month and see if Devin learns to sleep a bit longer before stirring. But we're very close to be able to get them in their room together for good which makes me happy! Saturday morning we went to Gardener Village to do their "witches hunt" and of course I got lots of cute pictures too! After we found all but one of the witches(we had to get some help with it)we went and got our yummy cookie, which of course Elizabeth was super excited about...Devin by then was asleep. After Gardener Village we went to the Nester's so Tony could do an interior detail on their poor dirty van. Elizabeth had LOTS of fun with her cousins and I was so grateful to have her occupied for a while and out of my hair! We ooo'd and awed over their pretty new truck, they kindly provided a pizza dinner for us. After Tony had finished we went to assist Johnny in giving a blessing. And called it a day! Sunday Devin woke up with diarrhea and some pretty bad rashes on his body so we took him into the doctor and found out her has really bad Thrush and a severe viral infection, he threw up three time while we were there, and has only kept down small amounts of pedialyte since. I can't believe the good spirits he keeps up even when he should feel completely awful! He truly is such a trooper! Today has been the same still throwing up his formula and he still has diarrhea but I'm hoping he'll start feeling better soon!
