July 27, 2010: Today we decided to stay closer to "base" as we'd driven alot the past couple days, so we headed into Old Town Florence, for all the shops! We got there a bit early though so there were only a couple stores open when we first got there. We wandered through the many little stores finding really cool souvenirs here and there. Before we knew it it was lunch time, we took a look at our options and my mom and I walked up to this one particular restaurant that smells absolutely mouth watering good...and ultimately we ended up eating there. It was called 1285 Restrobar, and they have the BEST clam chowder we've ever had!! I don't have words to describe how wonderful it tasted! They also had pizza, pasta, sea food, and a grill! Talk about something for everyone! Elizabeth even loved the clam chowder she ate about a half a cup herself! I got Spaghetti and meatballs...the meatballs could have doubled for baseballs!! Tony got a ceaser salad with Dungeness crab his mouth didn't stop watering for days! My mom got a Hawaiian pizza and shared with Elizabeth they said it too was really good! After lunch we went back to wandering stores, we found a kids store that had shoes on clearance...I of course found super cute pink ones and since Tony and I are such suckers for cute little shoes, and in our defense Liz did need sneakers we got them, and Elizabeth looked absolutely adorable in them!! Then we hit up the candy store, fudge, caramel corn and chocolate covered pretzels later we left and headed over to the little museum where they told about the history of Florence and had alot of donated historical items, it was fun to go through. After dinner at the motorhome Tony Liz and I headed to the beach that wasn't too far from the RV Park hoping to get some nice sunset pictures but as luck would have it by the time we got there the sun had gone down, so we just experienced how freezing cold the water is and walked the beach for a bit then called it a day!
July 28, 2010: We drove south to the Coos Bay area to Charleston our research showed this was an active fishing town so we figured it was a great place to get sea food, so we found a nice looking restaurant called Portside Cafe and went in to have some lunch. This place was WAY over priced for what you got, the food was just so so...kinda a flop, but what can ya do? After lunch we were going to go on a scenic drive to Bandon but when we looked more into it it was going to take to long so we just went back to Coos Bay and went to the Boardwalk. Cool views!! After that we started heading back, on our way we stopped at Myrtle Wood Factory where my mom picked up some stuff and Elizabeth was quite entertaining! We stopped by a Discovery Center in Reedsport on our way back but it was closed already so we just got the hours and decided to come back the next day. We made a quick stop to get some to go clam chowder from Retrobar's then got back to the trailer and watched a movie, had dinner and just relaxed.
July 29, 2010: Today was the Umpqua discovery Center...Elizabeth's favorite part of the trip! It was amazing!! And tons of fun for kids of all ages! Elizabeth spent most of the time going down the little slide that took you to the bear cave, it had light and sound effects, it was cool! After seeing all the amazing things inside we went to the outside to take in the amazing views of the Umpqua river and had lunch overlooking it at the Schooner Café. Then we headed back making a stop at an overlook with some sand dunes that Tony had to play in, it was pretty funny! We stopped in Old Town Florence as well to pick up some last few souvenirs as this was our last day around there. We had dinner at a place called Mo's which is right off the water, they had some really good food as well! And that was the highlights of the day!
July 30, 2010: We loaded up and cleaned up the motorhome then "turned it into a car" we drove about 4 hours until we got to Multnomah Falls, it was such a beautiful waterfall!! Then after taking it all in we drove to Troutdale Portland to spend the night, then drove the rest of the way home. It was such a fun trip!! Elizabeth did really well with all the driving and going and going, we were so glad!
Talking about this trip and seeing all the fun pictures and remembering all the fun we had is really getting me super excited for our big trip to Cananda!!!
