A Typical Couple Weeks

Let's start two weeks ago...Elizabeth's School lessons were on "C is for Creation" and Good Manners.  Elizabeth enjoyed learning what God created on each of the six days, and then of course learned that he rested on the seventh day.  We talked a lot about having good manners and why it's important, and that good manner are for everywhere!  She's certainly not a pro....but it's nice to at least know she knows what we're taking about when we ask her to remember her manners.  For science we talked again about the primary colors(which she had down pat now!) and did lots of color mixing for art.  We mixed colored water on coffee filters, she begged to do the colored milk mixing again!  She loves drinking all the different colors....this was probably the best project in helping her learn which primary colors mix to make the other colors.  We also of course mixed paint as well.  Devin actually didn't have too busy of a week, he just had OT and feeding therapy on Tuesday.  He did really really well too!  He is becoming a whole new boy!  He's interacting with people more he's trying to imitate speech more, his attention span is getting longer and his interest in different things has grown and yet at the same time solidified a bit.  Like he loves Thomas the Train, and Toy Story(mostly Woody).  His personality is really starting to come out!  And we love it!!  Feeding therapy also went pretty good!  Dani did some food painting with whipped cream, raspberry syrup, chocolate pudding(the favorite!) and ranch dressing(which he hated), she printed out and laminated a picture of Woody for him to "paint", and she was thrilled when he actually touched the food...he spread it quite hesitantly with just one finger at first, then he even started tasting the different foods, and after a while he was using his hands to spread and lick off the yummy concoction(the ranch was washed off) it was a total success!  That Friday I packed an overnight bag to take with us when we went up to my parents house for Elizabeth's Spanish lesson as we spent the weekend.  Elizabeth is doing amazing in Spanish!  My mom and I are very impressed with her comprehension and even ability to speak it and pick it up!  I did manage to leave the diaper back in our carport though...luckily a great neighbor went and hid it for us til Tony could get it.  Tony got off and took a bus to trax to front runner where my dad picked him up.  Then we had dinner and watched the BYU game.  Then Saturday morning Tony and my dad worked on a couple little projects Tony wanted to get done for around our little place.  Then that afternoon my mom and I went out in search of a Halloween shirt for Elizabeth...which was harder than I thought it would be.  Khols didn't have anything, I wasn't a fan of the Walmart ones(at least the ones in her size), Target had some but they were short sleeved, luckily K-Mart had pretty cute one for a pretty good price.  My biggest problem is that Elizabeth is like a size 5/6 shirt because of her height so that puts her into the girls section and they didn't have cute little girl designs they had big girl tween designs that I wasn't a big fan of.  But in the end the mission was accomplished.  My parents treated us to pizza for dinner then we headed home about bedtime.

Last week Elizabeth's school lessons were on "D is for Daniel" and the season Fall!  Elizabeth really loved learning about the story of Daniel and the Lions Den, and being obedient to God, even when it's hard.  Her favorite part was when Heavenly Father sent an angel to protect Daniel and put the lions to sleep.  She asked me if Heavenly Father would send an angel to protect her too, and I assured her He always will, and that she may not see an angel but rather feel the presence or protection, but her Heavenly Father was always there for her, and when she feels warm and fuzzy inside that was her Heavenly Father comforting her. It was a very tender and spiritual moment, and I'm so so so glad to have been able to share it with her!   For fall we talked about how the season has changed and what the weather was like now as opposed to a few months ago.  We discussed signs of fall, and also fun things that are only done in fall, as well as the two holidays that we celebrate in fall.  She did lots of fun fall crafts too!  Monday I took the camera to Gymnastics and took some pictures of all the fun she has!  Tuesday the kids and I had a lot of fun decorating for Halloween!  Wednesday Elizabeth got to go play at her friend Liza's house while I took Devin to OT and feeding therapy at the clinic.  Devin once again did really well!  He rocked in a little wooden boat...swung on a platform swing, jumped a couple of times on the little trampoline, and played with balls.  We couldn't get him to go down the slide though...maybe next time.  After all the movement though he was pretty high strung so Dani used a little vibrator to calm him, and I was surprised at how well it worked for him!   He literally melted like butter!  Then it was time for feeding therapy...he ate pieces of toast!  Dani tried a baby food chicken casserole in a pouch but Devin was not happy about it, so it ended up being a no go.  He did eat applesauce out of a bowl though which I hadn't been able to get him to do before, it always had to be in a pouch....so yay progress!  Oh and something kinda funny Devin has been doing lately is that he has this Thomas the Train pj shirt that he's wanted to wear under his clothes, so now when you tell him to say "go go Thomas" he points to his tummy!(he just assumes Thomas is there!)  :)  Friday I opened the Mommy Market for Elizabeth and she counted her 100 pennies!  She bought a kazoo, and a Kinder Surprise treat.   And that was pretty much it for that week, I'll do a separate post about our fun Conference weekend!

As I've mentioned before Elizabeth does a couple learning programs on the computer and her favorite BY FAR is ABCmouse.com it is the funnest site ever and so simple to navigate she can do it all by herself, a friend of mine is giving away a free one year subscription on her blog so go check it out!
