Always Mix Craziness With Some Fun!!
Phew! Well this past week has been downright CRAZY!! Monday during gymnastics Elizabeth beat up her poor glasses. They got squashed, and went flying a couple times! But she sure was having fun! Tuesday Devin had his MRI. It was scheduled for 1:15 so he had to stop eating and drinking at 10am. They started attempting his IV about 2 o'clock unfortunately his crappy veins are all but impossible when he hasn't had anything to eat or drink for so long. It took 8 pokes, 4 nurses and the specialty IV team(using a special light) and til 3 o'clock to finally get it in. :( He was one VERY sad boy! Infants obviously won't just lay there for a 45 minute MRI test so they sedate them(which is why he had to have the IV) and he seemed to be out before they put anything through his IV(an hours worth of bloody murder screaming will do that) so he was in the MRI by like 3:03! I waited in the recovery room all by myself as we kinda held up the line(and the other kids were all older). They brought him out at about 3:45 and said they'd start waking him up just after 5....ha! Devin had apparently decided he'd been there long enough, because he woke right up at about 4:15! And not drowsy awake....full on wide eyed awake!! The nurse came over and actually giggled at how awake and cute he was being. He chugged his apple juice, downed his graham cracker and was cleared to go by 4:40! I was like, go Devin!! They offered us another blanket but as we'd just gotten one I told them thanks but to save it for someone else. We got home just in time to go to Elizabeth's swimming lessons. Wednesday Elizabeth filled up her entire sticker chart(she gets stickers for being good) so we went to Nicklecade! She had so much fun! She rode all three animals on their little carousel, she rocked the mini ski-ball, and even racked up a ton of tickets on the nickle pusher machine! She even got to ride all the little rides! Devin and his sensory issues didn't want to have anything to do with the rides of any sort(he doesn't even like to swing). Though he did enjoy the mini ski-ball as well! Oh and trying to get to the shiny nickles in the pusher machines...so cute! With all our tickets she was able to get a pink inflatable microphone(to sing with in the car, her idea), a stuffed pug dog with puppy, which she named Stitch(she's on a Lilo and Stitch kick), a purple bracelet which she used as a necklace for Lovey and nine frootsie treats! Then we treated her to a happy meal at McDonalds and we even let her play at the play place for a while! She had such a great night! Thursday we were back up in the neighborhood of Primary Children's. First we stopped at the Moran to get Elizabeth's glasses seriously adjusted, I told Ellen about how she keeps beating them up at gymnastics, and she told me that they have special "sport" frames that are more flexible and comfortable. So she tried a pair on her and alas they were WAY too big, and sadly that was the smallest they come. So maybe next year. As it is we're getting her swimming glasses(as we spend 3/4 of the summer in the pool, and I DO NOT want to loose those expensive glasses at the bottom of the pool!) Anyway after her glasses were as good as new, we went over to the hospital to get Devin's (more)blood work done which only took 30 mins thanks to the 12 ounces of milk and apple juice I had him drink all morning! They gave Elizabeth a yummy treat and a fun Easter picture to color so she hardly noticed the screaming! They yet again offered us to let Devin pick out a toy but I told them he'd settle for just a graham cracker and they kindly got one for him! I can't believe how generous everyone is there! Then after swimming lessons Elizabeth kept complaining she was freezing(despite the fact she had her winter coat on)and that she didn't feel good, well she laid around all night so before we took her up to get ready for bed I took her temperature, and was scared to death when it was 104.5! So I threw her coat on, and went to instacare and once I told them what her temp was the receptionist got up and the nurse came right out and got us(this was my first clue this was as bad as I thought it was) then we completely passed the whole check-in routine(my next clue) and went right back to the room where they took her temp and told me to take her clothes off, they put a cool wet towel on the exam table and laid her on it, then they brought in mist fans and put them all around her. Then another nurse came in and told me they were going to give her a prescription fever reducer that has the side effect of sever drowsiness, and indeed she was out like a light in no time! A few minutes later the doctor came in and asked if there were any other symptoms besides a super high fever and I told her no just that she said her tummy hurt, so she looked her over, took a throat swab for strep(which came back negative). She told me she wasn't exactly sure what caused such a high fever but the most important thing was to bring it down. She said it could be a virus, possibly a stomach virus since she complained of stomach pain, and to just watch that the fever didn't go back up. The nurse came back in and took her temp again and since it was down to 102.7 said we could go home. So home we went! Then came yesterday....oh yesterday! I woke up to hundreds of ants in the dining room...lots of fun trying to keep the curious 3 and one year old away. Then as soon as I got that under control I look over and see a river in the dining room coming from the lake in the laundry room...the washer overflowed while I was dealing with ants! I wanted to scream pack up the kids a leave right then! But alas I had to be responsible, as we were going to need to use the dining room again, so I cleaned up the water and kept working on the laundry. Then after Elizabeth's quiet time, I put Devin down for his nap and came downstairs to Elizabeth complaining that her eye was itchy and hurting *cute side note, she told me "mommy, my eye feels hot"* :) So I called the pediatrician and they got her in 30 minutes later(it takes 20-25 minutes to get there) may I remind you I had just put Devin down for his nap! So since there were no other options, I packed the bag for anything, got Devin put the kids in the car and headed out. And would ya know it I made it to the doctors office 29 minutes later, one minute before the appointment time! Go me!! It took no time at all to diagnose pink eye, but she was far more concerned about her super high fever. So we tried to get a urine sample, but she had nothin' so after deciding that I did not want to stay in the office with two screaming ornery children we decided to get the sample at home. Which we did. Putting eye drops in Elizabeth eyes proved mighty difficult the first few times, but she's starting to come to terms with it. And to defuse the stress of the previous week we decided to take advantage of the great weather today and go to the zoo, partly because Elizabeth has been asking to go for a while now and also to get the membership we've been meaning to get(my parent's gave us money towards it for Christmas) and it worked! We had a really great day!
