Devin's One Year Check-up

Devin's one year check-up went pretty good I'd say...all things considered. He was given the go ahead with milk, and to eat anything he wants...like he doesn't already! His physical motor skills were looking pretty good, she noted that he does still have some tightness in his hips, but that's what his PT is working on. She was taken aback a little with how delayed his receptive language was(his understanding what you tell him), she said it's not uncommon for kids to have speech delays, sometimes for no real reason,(some kids just don't want to talk until they're older and that's fine!) but the fact that he doesn't understand either is a bit more alarming. She was relieved to see that his speech therapist was looking into possible causes(such as autism). When she saw the note about the seizure he had during therapy, we discussed his daily "space outs". She said she agreed with his therapist that it was a seizure, but that they could very well be harmless, and could possibly go away on their own...but because he is so delayed in neurological areas she sent an order to Primary Children's for a complete neurological work-up. I got a call this morning from them and they're working him in on Friday(Elizabeth's EEG took over a month to get an appointment!) not that I'm complaining, I'm glad they were willing to work him in so quickly! Now for his stats!
Height: 31 3/4 inches (101 %) they measured him three times to be sure...he's one tall boy! But this is not the first time his height has been off the chart.
Weight: 21.5 pounds (25th %) Devin is tall and skinny.
His head circumference, I don't remember the measurement but it was in the 99%tile so back on the chart! This was great news! She could safely tell us that no surgery will be needed to drain excess fluid from his huge noggin! YAY!! He had to get three shots, which the nurse almost couldn't go through with after he kept smiling at her as she prepped the shots, she told me "oh he's just too darn cute to poke!" but she did and he took it very badly! He turned red twice and blueish once we had to blow in his face twice to keep him breathing and slap him once. But eventually he started to cry and breathe at the same time. He was also asleep on my shoulder before we got out of the office! See pretty good visit I'd say!(minus the sad shots) I did leave with two prescription papers though...one for the neurological work up, and one for a blood work-up. Poor little guy is going to get beaten up on Friday! And as I had the feeling we would be, we're headed back up to Primary Children's. I asked our pediatrician at the end of our visit...it is possible to come to a wellness visit without ending up with any prescription papers sending you to the hospital right? I just need to know it's at least possible! Because neither of my children have managed it yet. Ah well, as I say every time...maybe next time!
